| Interview
questions and answer tips |
| |
| Would you like to begin by telling me something
about yourself? |
|
| |
| Tip: Keep
it short and simple. It helps if you prepare for
this question in advance. Relate what you are
saying to the job you are applying for. |
| |
| Why do you want to
join our company? |
|
| |
Tip: Talk
about three aspects of the company that impressed
you the most. You can find material on the company’s
website and by speaking to present employees. |
| |
| Can you mention three
strengths that you possess? |
|
| |
Tip: Mention
the strength in about two to three words and substantiate
why you feel this is your strength. Preferably
give examples but keep an eye on the time. |
| |
| Can you mention one of your weaknesses? |
|
| |
Tip: The
tendency is to mention a weakness that sounds
like a strength. Avoid doing this because the
interview has probably heard it a million times.
Stick to the truth but mention the steps you are
taking to overcome the weakness. |
| |
| What are three aspects you are looking for
in a job? |
|
| |
Tip: Again
plan for this in advance. Give reasons why you
consider your points to be most important. Mention
how this will motivate you to perform at your
best. |
| |
| How would your present colleagues describe
you? |
|
| |
Tip: Relate
your answer to what you think the interviewer
is looking for in a prospective employee. This
would have been mentioned in the advertisement
for the position. Be truthful but don’t
go overboard. |
| |
| What has been your greatest professional
accomplishment thus far? |
|
| |
Tip: Preferably
mention an accomplishment, which helped your company
and your team. Bring out the fact that you possess
the skills to repeat the accomplishment if given
the opportunity. |
| |
| How does this job fit in with your overall
career goals? |
|
| |
Tip: What
you mention here has to be consistent with what
you have written in your resume. Be precise in
what you are saying and do not beat around the
bush. The interviewer is trying to identify if
you have a vision for your future. |
| |
| Why do you want to leave your present employment? |
|
| |
| Tip: Your answer can be related
to the previous question. More money, more power
and more learning are the most common reasons but
put it across in a way you would want to hear it. |
| |
| Do you have any questions or doubts relating
to what we have discussed? |
|
| |
| Tip: Restrict your questions
to about two or three. Do not ask for general information
that you could have got from the company website.
Preferably ask the interviewer questions on the
actual job profile. |
| |
| All the best and remember…most importantly…be
you!! |
